Liverpool given reason to believe Alexander Isak is THEIRS

Liverpool have stolen a march for Alexander Isak. The Newcastle United striker appears to be theirs to sign.

Football Transfers reported this week that Liverpool would like to sign Alexander Isak. It's an interesting one, with Isak being up there with the best players in the Premier League this season.

Liverpool don't typically sign those players. They're wildly overpriced, for one, while most are already in their prime years by the time they're putting in elite performances.

But Isak could be available. The FT report suggests Newcastle United are targeting Viktor Gyokeres as they're expecting their current Swede to depart.

Liverpool are apparently the team pushing hardest to sign him, too, though Arsenal are also in the mix. Both teams could use an elite centre-forward, of course.

Though, this could now be a one-horse race.

Arsenal look elswhere

Ben Jacobs is reporting that Arsenal appear to have a different striker target in mind. They're in contact with RB Leipzig over Benjamin Sesko.

Now, Leipzig's UEFA Champions League exit does open the door slightly to a January transfer. They're down on cash, after all.

But it's still difficult. This could be one for the summer, like Isak.

What it is, though, is a sign that Arsenal are ready to pursue a non-Isak striker. They're certainly not paying the money to sign both - we're not even sure how they'd play both.

And so this feels like an admittance of defeat. Arsenal aren't even waiting around to see if they could persuade Isak and Newcastle to make a move happen.

They'd rather initiate talks over Sesko and push that one. Liverpool, on the other hand, could find themselves with a free path to sign Isak.

That's certainly an exciting prospect and one we're firmly behind. There could be big changes at Liverpool in 2025.

Isak could well be at the centre of them.
