Adrien Rabiot 'prefers Man United to Liverpool' as race for FREE transfer heats up

Liverpool are set to miss out on a France international as he reportedly ‘prefers’ a move to Manchester United. Do the Reds actually want Adrien Rabiot, though?

French journalist Romain Collet-Gaudin claims Adrien Rabiot has interest from both Manchester United and Liverpool. His entourage is in talks with the rival clubs and a deal could be struck soon.

Rabiot is currently available on a free transfer after leaving Juventus at the end of his contract last month. However, he has a preference for his next destination.

Collet-Gaudin says Rabiot prefers a move to Man United over Liverpool and he's 'getting closer' to a deal. The 29-year-old can take his time deciding, though - so maybe there's a twist in this story.

Romano denies Liverpool interest

But maybe there's no story at all. Fabrizio Romano contradicts this claim, suggesting Liverpool are not working on a deal for Rabiot and they're not in the running for him.

"Adrien Rabiot dreams of Premier League football, his priority as free agent,” says Romano on X. "Rabiot also has proposals from other leagues… but still waiting for PL clubs.

"Liverpool are NOT working on a deal to sign Rabiot, despite recent links."

And so if there are any Liverpool fans hoping to see Rabiot at Anfield, perhaps they should give up on that idea.

We think it's unlikely that Liverpool are working on a deal here as there's no real room for Rabiot. At 29, he'd need to be a guaranteed starter right away, given the wages he'd demand, and would he really be that?

It makes far more sense to hand the minutes to younger players already at the club. Stefan Bajcetic, for instance, feels like a far safer bet for Liverpool next season now that he's back from injury.

The long-term benefits certainly outweigh taking a punt on Rabiot.
