Arsenal hope to beat Liverpool with £42m bid for Ademola Lookman

Liverpool could miss out on a target as Arsenal have reportedly proposed a £42m transfer. The Reds would need to act fast.

Alfredo Pedulla claims Arsenal have proposed a £42m deal with Atalanta for Ademola Lookman. The winger has been linked with an exit this summer, primarily to Paris Saint-Germain.

In fact, Lookman reportedly excused himself from training this week in order to seal a transfer to Paris. The French champions' interest subsequently waned, however.

And Pedulla claims it's Arsenal who are now pushing hardest to sign the former Everton forward. Interestingly, though, he also says Liverpool are waiting in the background.

He's not the first to claim that, either. Graeme Bailey also believes Liverpool are watching Lookman with a potential move on the horizon.

It's the Gunners who have made the first move, though. They're hoping to snap up Lookman after his heroics for Atalanta clinched the Europa League trophy over undefeated Bayer Leverkusen last season.

Liverpool like Lookman

There is simply no room for Lookman in Liverpool's squad right now, making this one hard to believe. Though, if Luis Diaz were to leave, it is one that makes some sense.

Lookman is homegrown in English football, after all, having come through at Charlton before joining Everton. He's bagged double digits in Serie A in each of the last two seasons, too, making him a genuine threat on the wing.

But with it looking increasingly unlikely that Liverpool lose Diaz this summer, we just don't see it happening. It would be £42m for a player the Reds simply don't need and one who isn't really an upgrade on anyone at the club.

So if Arsenal want Lookman, we imagine he's theirs. Any interest from Liverpool was likely in preparation for possible exits, with no real intention to approach Atalanta.
