Liverpool are currently enjoying a spectacular season that not many had envisaged last summer.
When Jurgen Klopp left the club, it was supposed to herald a rebuild that would take time.

Yet, within months, Arne Slot has been able to defy the odds and build a team that looks invincible becoming the quickest manager to record 20 wins in all competitions in English football since the 19th century.
Slot's team definitely doesn't look like it's going through a rebuild. However, under the surface there is definitely elements that can be refreshed and improved.
Particularly in the defence.
Why Liverpool need to add another centre-back to the squad
Everyone's focus at the moment is at the left-back situation at the club. However, it's probably just as important to add a centre-back as well.
Ibrahima Konate has faced injury problems, Virgil van Dijk is not getting any younger, Jarell Quansah seems to have been hit with a confidence crisis and Joe Gomez continues to be linked with moves away from the club.
Liverpool need a long-term future world-class centre-back and there is a perfect signing who Richard Hughes could pursue right now.
Why Abdukodir Khusanov is Liverpool's perfect choice
There is absolutely no one better for the role than Uzbekistan's 20-year-old centre-back, Khusanov who is currently dominating opponents in Ligue 1.
What Liverpool need is a fast defender who can play in a high line, win a high volume of duels, read the game well and be comfortable on the ball capable of instigating attacks.
Khusanov ticks every single one of those boxes.
As per Wyscout, no one has a better defensive duel success rate among centre-backs who have played at least 1000 minutes in Ligue 1 than Khusanov.
The Uzbek defender wins 78.57% of his 6.92 defensive duels per 90 meaning he also averages the most successful defensive actions per 90 among centre-backs as well (11.69).
He's also relatively decent in the air winning 65% of his more than three aerial duels per 90 minutes and his reading of the game is excellent as well ranking third among centre-backs for possession-adjusted interceptions (7.79 per 90).
On top of those numbers, he has also clocked a top speed of 37km/h in Ligue 1 this season, making him one of the fastest players in the competition and one of the fastest in Europe's top five leagues.
Not to mention he also ranks fifth among centre-backs for progressive passes per 90 (10.52) showing he can play a role in playing the ball out from the back, too.
It's difficult to articulate just how special those numbers are. Khusanov is pretty much a supreme defender and the fact that he is doing this at just 20 years old speaks volumes of his exciting potential.
He is exactly the type of centre-back Liverpool need. He's the type of player who can lock down that position for a decade to come.
Although he is right footed, he's played a lot as a left-sided centre-back in his career as well and that versatility could make him a very good addition to the squad even now.
There will be plenty of suitors for Khusanov in the summer window if he stays at Lens, which is why Richard Hughes should make a move for him now in the upcoming January window.
He's the missing piece the Liverpool centre-back department desperately needs.
