Liverpool could be set to make a massive profit as a former player is set for a big-money move to a Premier League rival.

Reported by The Transfers Podcast, Tottenham have agreed a club record deal with Bournemouth which would see former Reds striker Dominic Solanke move to North London for a £65 million fee.

Finishing the 2024/24 Premier League season with 19 goals, Solanke finally seems to have found his feet at the top level, something which had eluded him earlier in his career.

Sold by Liverpool in January 2019, Solanke has been a key part of a Bournemouth side that have really impressed under the direction of coach Andoni Iraola and new Reds sporting director Richard Hughes.

Even at the time of Solanke’s sale to Bournmouth, Liverpool made a huge profit as the reported price of £19m far outstripped the tribunal-set figure of £3m that the Reds had paid to sign him as a teenager from Chelsea.

Now it looks as though that profit is set to increase again, as Liverpool hold a clause that entitles them to 20% of whatever money Bournemouth get for Solanke. If the reported figure of £65m is correct, the Reds are set to earn a further £9m from the sale, taking their overall profit on Solanke to around £25m.

Solanke's Anfield struggles

During his time at Anfield, Solanke failed to make a huge impact, which was understandable as he was only 19 years old when he joined in July 2017, and given the stellar seasons and world-class talent that Liverpool enjoyed in that period it’s not hard to see why he couldn’t nail down a starting spot. This is something Solanke himself has spoken about, so it’s nice to see he bears no ill-will.

At 26 years-old Solanke is now in his prime, as evident during his recent exploits with Bournemouth, so it’s not hard to see why Tottenham are willing to pay a record price.
