Liverpool are close to appointing a former Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund man in a key role.

The club has confirmed the departure of the Reds' director of scouting and recruitment, Dave Fallows, after 12 years of service at Anfield.

This comes after a major reshuffling behind the scenes in the boardroom this summer with Michael Edwards returning as FSG's head of football operations and Richard Hughes appointed as the club's sporting director.

Meanwhile, former Liverpool sporting director, Julian Ward, has also returned to the club in a new role working under FSG.

Fallows though is on his way out after a spectacular decade-long tenure at the club. He played a key role in Liverpool's success under FSG, helping to identify some of the most important players in Jurgen Klopp's tenure.

It's no surprise Hughes paid a fitting tribute to Fallows after the club confirmed his departure. But as one key staff is set to leave another is on the verge of being appointed at Liverpool.

Anfield Watch understands Liverpool have already identified a potential replacement for Fallows in former Bayern Munich chief scout, Markus Pilawa.

Liverpool looking to appoint Markus Pilawa

Pilawa is a renowned figure in German football, having worked at Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund.

During his spell at Dortmund, he briefly worked alongside Jurgen Klopp when he initially arrived as a club scout back in 2012, back when the former Liverpool boss was manager of the German giants.

While at Dortmund, he played a role in recruiting the likes of Jude Bellingham, Erling Haaland, Jadon Sancho and Manuel Akanji, among many others.

In 2022, Pilawa moved onto Dortmund's rivals, Bayern Munich, where he was also appointed in the role of chief scout.

During his time at Bayern, the club signed the likes of Harry Kane, Michael Olise and Konrad Laimer and also sold Sadio Mane to Saudi Arabian side Al Nassr.

Pilawa left Bayern Munich back in September following the end of the summer transfer window and is currently a free agent.

It is expected he will fill the vacant role left by Fallows, although he will not operate under exactly the same job title in what is a continued reshuffle in the boardroom.
