Jurgen Klopp is set to be competing with Liverpool in his new role at Red Bull.

The German is no longer sitting behind the dugout but instead taking his place in the boardroom as he is set to take over as Red Bull's Head of Global Soccer from January onwards.

It's an interesting new role for the German and one where he will be advising one of the biggest football networks in the world with Red Bull having clubs in North America, Asia and South America as well as their two most popular sides in Europe, in RB Leipzig and Red Bull Salzburg.

Klopp's new role will also see him coming up against his former side and competing with the likes of Michael Edwards and Richard Hughes.

The first clash between the trio could come this summer over the transfer of an exciting prospect.

Jurgen Klopp looking to block Xavi Simons' transfer to Liverpool

This according to SportBild who report that Klopp is a huge fan of Simons and wanted to bring him to Anfield back when he was still in charge of Liverpool.

The report claims Klopp will now be very keen to tie Simons to a permanent transfer at RB Leipzig, with the Dutch international currently only on loan.

This could prevent Liverpool from signing the attacker, with the Reds having also been linked with him recently even post Klopp's departure.

Simons is seen as an ideal target for the no.10 role in Slot's system and someone who the Liverpool head coach will know well having followed his progress closely while the youngster was playing in the Eredivisie.

Obviously, Klopp will be keen to do anything in his power to block Simons moving to Liverpool.

But he will face a major impediment at Leipzig. Simons is currently contracted to PSG and the French club are reportedly going to be asking for €80m for his services, which is roughly £67m.

That is a steep figure for a club like Leipzig and it remains to be seen whether Klopp can figure out a way to keep Simons at the club or whether he will miss out on him once again - just like he did at Liverpool.
