Ex-Red sees MAJOR issue with Liverpool's interest in Dani Olmo

After lighting up Euro 2024 with some sensational performances for Spain, RB Leipzig playmaker Dani Olmo is a wanted man this summer.

Liverpool are among several elite clubs reportedly in the mix to sign Olmo, who finished the continental tournament as a champion - and one of six top scorers in Germany.

Indeed, Olmo’s stock has risen this past month. As well as being handy in attack during the Euros, his goal-saving header against England in the final - after he seamlessly replaced injured midfielder Pedri earlier in the competition - has not gone unnoticed.

Several clubs interested in Dani Olmo

As a result, alongside the Reds, Premier League rivals Manchester City and Manchester United are among the many suitors Olmo could pick from, according to Spanish outlet Diario AS.

For those willing to make their interest concrete, Olmo’s release clause stands at €60 million (around £50 million). It was supposed to expire one day after the conclusion of the Euros, but, with Spain going all the way, it will now be active until today, 20 July, according to transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano.

'So much quality'

One man admiring his work is ex-Reds full-back Stephen Warnock, who thinks the Spaniard would impress at Liverpool.

“Dani Olmo is such an exciting player,” he told BetVictor. “He’s so underrated. I do like Olmo because he would add so much quality.”

Yet, beyond having to shell out big money for his services, his place in the lineup presents a headache, Warnock suggests.

“My only concern with Liverpool signing Olmo is they already have so many players in that position: Curtis Jones, Harvey Elliot, Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai,” added Warnock.

Despite being a possible upgrade, playing as number 10 or as an attacking central midfielder, Olmo shares qualities with players already at Anfield.

And with other areas to strengthen - in goal, central defence and defensive midfield - it’s perhaps unlikely Liverpool will spend heavily on such a player.

However, for Reds coach Arne Slot, he no doubt would be a dream to work with.
