Liverpool could have just moved a step closer to signing Arne Slot's ideal no.6

Liverpool should still be prioritising a n0.6 this summer and they could have moved a step closer to signing an ideal option.

The last few years have been chaotic for Liverpool in terms of the club's pursuit of an ideal no.6. Moves have failed for the likes of Aurelien Tchouameni and Moises Caicedo.

Meanwhile, this summer it was Martin Zubimendi, who ultimately rejected the Reds in favour of staying at his boyhood club, Real Sociedad.

But despite those failed attempts, Liverpool still have an opportunity to redeem themselves and could sign an ideal no.6 for Arne Slot. Especially, after their latest transfer move could have made things even easier to land the ideal target.

Why Liverpool could now sign Lucas Gourna-Douath

Liverpool are still exploring the market for options to sign a no.6 even at this late stage of the window. It's a priority position to strengthen for the club despite Ryan Gravenberch impressing in the role recently.

One ideal target could be Red Bull Salzburg's Lucas Gourna-Douath. The 21-year-old midfielder proved himself in the Champions League last season and has all the attributes to be an excellent option for Slot - being equally could defensively and in his distribution.

And Liverpool could have moved a step closer to signing him as well with the club, allowing Stefan Bajcetic to go out on loan to Red Bull Salzburg as per Fabrizio Romano.

Bajcetic could very well be a replacement for Gourna-Douath at Salzburg and free up the prospect of the Reds bringing in the midfielder before the end of the transfer window.

Gourna-Douath sat on the bench for Salzburg on Tuesday night in their Champions League qualifier and he could be open to a move away from the club.

But the clock is ticking with Liverpool not having long left to secure a deal.
