Liverpool transfers: 'Exceptional' attacker to be released just MONTHS after debut

Liverpool are set to RELEASE 20-year-old attacker Mateusz Musialowski at the end of the season despite Jurgen Klopp handing him a first-team debut back in March. 

Musialowski was regarded as one of the elite attacking talents in his age group when the Reds signed him from SMS Lodz in Poland back in 2020. 

Having spent time on trial with Premier League rivals Arsenal, the Anfield side managed to sign Musialowski to a four-year contract. 

He impressed in the early stages of his Liverpool academy career, starring for the club’s under-18 side, but then saw his progress stall as other attacking talents like Ben Doak and Kaide Gordon overtook him in the pecking order. 

It was reported last summer that Austrian side TSV Hartberg were ready to take him off Liverpool’s hands but the move collapsed at the last minute when the English side insisted on a fee. 

Leeds and Birmingham City were both reported as interested in a deal during the January transfer window but links came to nothing and Musialowski stayed put. 

The clock however is ticking down on his current deal with his terms set to expire on July 1. The Reds might well offer him the formality of a new deal in order to secure compensation from whichever club he moves to in the off-season, according to This is Anfield. 

Teams in Poland are interested in Musialowski, dubbed ‘the Polish Messi’ in his younger days, while his agent has previously expressed a preference for the Netherlands, Belgium or Switzerland. 

“I don’t want to persuade him to return to Poland, but he has the most offers from his homeland. Most clubs want him,” Cezary Kucharski said earlier this season. “I think he should go to the Netherlands, Belgium, or maybe Switzerland.”

Liverpool senior manager Klopp was sufficiently impressed with Musialowski’s development that he included him in the squad for the Europa League round of 16 match against Sparta Prague at Anfield back in March.

The Liverpool No.92 played the last 16 minutes of the 6-1 second-leg victory, replacing Bobby Clark after the midfielder suffered an injury. 

In doing so, he became the 56th player aged 20 or younger to be given a Liverpool first-team debut by Klopp. 

After the game, the German paid tribute to Musialowski, adding that he deserved his belated chance in the first team.

“I don’t care really about the statistic, but now Mateusz, you have to say, deserved it as well,” he said. “That’s how it is. He trains now a few weeks with us – he was already with us, then not.

“Players develop differently. He’s an exceptional talent, but obviously here in the club, we see football in a specific way. 

“He got it now, more and more, I really think he’s now ready.

 “That’s why he got [game time]. I obviously had the choice between a few and thought ‘come on, give him these few minutes, he waited long enough’. 

“Another great kid.”

Those minutes are likely to prove the only game time of his Liverpool career with Musialowski now set to depart on a free transfer for pastures new.
