Liverpool tipped to replace Joe Gomez with Serie A defender

Liverpool could replace centre-back Joe Gomez with Torino defender Gleison Bremer this summer, according to Tutto Mercato Web, as cited by TEAMtalk on Twitter.

Gomez has been linked with a move away from Anfield due to a lack of playing time. The Englishman is behind Virgil van Dijk and Joel Matip in the pecking order.

Gomez has only made 14 appearances for Liverpool's first-team this season. If the 24-year-old does secure a move away from the Reds this summer, the club could make a move for Bremer.

The Brazilian's contract expires in the summer of 2024. Transfermarkt value Bremer at €30 million.

Anfield Watch Verdict

Firstly, we do hope that Gomez, who is contracted until June 2024, remains at Anfield beyond this season. The centre-back is certainly good enough to represent the club and he is at a good age.

Gomez averaged a WhoScored player rating of 6.78 (28 appearances) across the 2019-20 Premier League title-winning season.

Unfortunately since then, the 24-year-old has suffered a couple of injuries, which is a key reason why he has lost his place in the side.

But, if Gomez does leave Liverpool this summer, Bremer would be a decent replacement. Footage of the Brazilian highlights that he is a complete centre-back.

Torino defender Mergim Vojvoda has made comments about Bremer in the past which back up the aforementioned argument.

“(Bremer) is very strong, an animal,” the 27-year-old said, as quoted by Tutto Mercato Web. “He has made an incredible leap in quality in the last year. But he can still improve a lot because he is young. He has renewed, we hope he stays because he is really strong.

“Physically, he is strong. He works hard and as soon as I arrived, I was impressed by how much he trained. He is also fast, he is tall and has made a great leap in quality on a technical level, with the ball at his feet. Work pays off, you can see it with him.”

Bremer is only 24 years of age, which means that he would be a long-term investment for the club.
