Liverpool target Johan Bakayoko is set to sign a new deal with PSV Eindhoven as the Dutch side attempt to fend off interest from potential suitors.

The Belgian winger has been linked with a host of clubs in the past, including Liverpool, while Brentford saw a £34m deal for the 20-year-old collapse last summer.

Bakayoko has been in impressive form at the beginning of the new season, providing three goals and nine assists across the Eredivisie and Champions League. The youngster showed glimpses of his potential in an away trip to Arsenal in Europe earlier this term, despite his side losing 4-0.

Amid interest from an array of clubs, PSV have decided to tie him down to a new and improved deal according to AD. While this doesn't include a contract extension - Bakayoko committed himself to the Dutch side until 2026 last February - it's likely to come with a bumper pay rise.

PSV are unwilling to let Bakayoko go until next summer and would need a 'huge offer' for his services. The Dutch outfit see him as an important part of their Eredivisie title push and European ambitions.

The seven-cap Belgium international has provided 24 goal contributions in 57 senior appearances for PSV since breaking into the first team during the 2022/23 season.

A right-winger who is left-footed, Liverpool could perhaps be eyeing the phenom as a potential Mohamed Salah replacement in years to come. The Egyptian has been regularly linked with a big-money move to Saudi Arabia and is now 31-years-old.

However, Dutch journalist Wim Kieft has previously expressed his reservations about a potential move to Liverpool for Bakayoko.

Writing in De Telegraaf, Kieft stated: "Bakayoko has qualities as a right-winger, but something different is asked in the Premier League than against FC Utrecht or Sturm Graz.

“He plays more safe when teams adapt to him. He often lacks guts, while he possesses the qualities to go inside and out. A little more initiative wouldn’t hurt. But Liverpool at this stage of his career?"

While not a glowing recommendation of the winger, Bakayoko is certainly a player worth keeping an eye on given his enormous potential.
