Liverpool target Jarrod Bowen admits he's learning from Mohamed Salah

Reported Liverpool target Jarrod Bowen believes Mohamed Salah is arguably the best goal-poacher in the Premier League. The West Ham United attacker has been in sublime form in the 2023-24 campaign,  notching up six goals in nine league appearances and earning a recall to the England squad under Gareth Southgate. 

The 26-year-old has also been linked with a move to Anfield, with a report from The Athletic confirming that the Reds are keeping tabs on Bowen as a potential successor to Salah, who has attracted interest from the Saudi Pro League.

In an interview with TNT Sport, Bowen spoke about his desire to score more goals this season as he continues to be deployed centrally by David Moyes. The winger name-dropped Salah as a player who knows where to be in the box to put the ball in the back of the net, while Manchester City's Erling Haaland also got a mention.

He said (quotes via Liverpool Echo): “I’ve always wanted to score goals and get into the positions where the ball might fall to you, I always want to score goals more than anything. I want to score every single game.

“I’m always usually in a position in the box where I know a chance might fall to me. It’s something I’ve been working on myself really with my dad. He spoke to me about it, he was a centre-forward and he understands it. We just have little chats about different runs to make and where to be in the box. I think Salah’s the best at it and obviously Haaland, too. They’re always positioning themselves where they think they’re going to score a goal.

“People say it’s scoring from four yards out but there’s a special art to it of picking up that space in the box and kind of anticipating where the ball’s going to be. So definitely something that I’ve not been working on the training pitch, just more probably looking at videos and having a chat about it really.”

Bowen's current contract with West Ham runs out in the summer of 2025, so the Hammers could be open to parting with their star man if he fails to sign an extension between now and the end of the season. With Salah's future uncertain amid interest from Saudi Arabia, Liverpool could make a concrete effort to sign the 26-year-old in 2024 if the Egyptian calls time on his Anfield career.
