'We hang out quite a bit' - Szoboszlai reveals which Liverpool star is his best mate
Dominik Szoboszlai has revealed his best friend at Liverpool.
The Hungarian playmaker joined the Reds from RB Leipzig last summer for around £60 million and immediately made a strong impression at his new club.
He was the go-to guy in midfield for manager Jurgen Klopp, creating and scoring goals, until a hamstring injury at the turn of the year curtailed his progress.
Among other big fixtures, the 23-year-old was forced to sit out the Carabao Cup final but has been back in the lineup in recent weeks.
His quality on the ball and threatening strikes at goal will be vital for the Reds as they chase twin glory in the Europa League and Premier League by the end of the season.
Another Reds’ star player who has been absent in recent weeks is Trent Alexander-Arnold.
The 25-year-old suffered a recurrence of a knee injury first acquired against Arsenal in the FA Cup in January.
His place in the side has gone to Conor Bradley but his presence will be integral to Klopp’s team in the closing weeks of the season.
And in an interview with Stadium Astro, Szoboszlai revealed his closeness to Alexander-Arnold, disclosing that the pair have plenty in common.
Asked if he was closer to the England international than the rest of his team-mates, he said: “Yeah, probably.”
“I’m close with everyone but with Trent we are the same age, outside of football we do almost the same things, we hang out quite a bit and also on the pitch we understand each other well.”
Trent says Szoboszlai is a natural-born footballer
Trent for his part has been effusive in his praise for Szoboszlai, describing the Hungary captain as a “natural” in an interview with B/R Football.
“I think he’s just a natural-born football player. I think you just get a feeling with someone who just knows and understands the game,” he said.
“They don’t overcomplicate it. There’s not a certain system or a certain way of playing that brings the best out of them. They can do everything, and it’s just natural. That’s the kind of vibe you get with him.”
“He’s a talent that’s very special. He’s an exceptional player and a great lad as well, so he’s someone who is very exciting for the club, very exciting for himself as well.
”He is someone we’re going to need to perform and he understands that and demands that from himself, so he’s a great addition to the squad.”
