"Liverpool struggled for me" - Gabby Agbonlahor on Aston Villa clash

Pundit Gabby Agbonlahor believes that Liverpool were lucky against Aston Villa at Villa Park last night.

The Reds secured a 2-1 Premier League victory over the Villans. Douglas Luiz gave Aston Villa the lead after three minutes of play.

But, Liverpool equalised shortly after through Joel Matip. Sadio Mane then scored the winner in the second-half.

However, Agbonlahor was quite critical of Liverpool's performance post-match.

“Liverpool have to act (to Manchester City signing Haaland),” Agbonlahor told talkSPORT, as quoted by HITC.

“They have to sign a striker because last night Liverpool struggled for me. Villa were very good defensively.

“I thought it was an outstanding performance (from Villa) – that team was up for the game. Some very good performances. Danny Ings was on fire against his former club. He should have scored the header in the first-half.

“I think Liverpool got away with one to be honest. I don’t think there was much in the game.

“Maybe Klopp, he rested (Mohamed) Salah and played Curtis Jones. He maybe saw it as an easier game than it was because it was a tough game for Liverpool.”

Anfield Watch Verdict

Aston Villa were very good against Liverpool. They defended well and got forward when they could.

Steven Gerrard's side had nothing to play for, but they did show up.

However, we do believe that Agbonlahor's comments are not entirely accurate. Liverpool were tested, but they were not outplayed. They just had to stay patient, which they managed to do in the end.

Agbonlahor has spoken about Ings' missed opportunity in the first-half. Bad finishing is bad football at the end of the day.

Liverpool were more clinical, which is why they walked away from Villa Park with the three points. Agbonlahor is entitled to his opinion. We just don't agree with it.
