€24m Liverpool star set for UNEXPECTED first team promotion

Arne Slot hasn't rotated his squad an awful lot this season, but now he has no choice but to promote a player who has barely featured.

At this moment in time, Liverpool's attackers are not really delivering on a consistent basis. The Reds' defeat to Paris Saint Germain was largely due to their inability to create chances.

Over the course of the two legs, PSG generated for more xG and shots on goal, in the first leg despite Liverpool winning the game Slot's side had just two efforts at the PSG goal.

In the second leg, Gianluigi Donnarumma was forced into a few saves, but these came mostly from set-pieces with Diogo Jota and Darwin Nunez both having toothless performances.

As Anfield Watch revealed exclusively, Liverpool are open to selling the duo and Luis Diaz this summer and with the club having that stance Slot should already be moving on from his current options and building towards the future.

There's a player in the club's squad right now who is capable of both scoring and creating chances on a regular basis and who deserves more minutes.

Why Federico Chiesa is about to be unleashed by Slot

Out of Liverpool's first team options, Chiesa has played the fewest minutes for Liverpool in all competitions this season. He's played a total of just 373 minutes, 200 minutes less than Harvey Elliott.

His minutes have been even fewer in the Premier League, where Chiesa has featured in just 28 minutes so far.

But with Diaz, Nunez and Jota struggling to find their form, Slot will have no choice but to finally unleash Chiesa.

The Italian is not a bad player, in the limited time he has spent on the pitch for Liverpool, he's demonstrated that. Chiesa has three goal contributions in just three starts for the Reds.

He's averaged 0.73 goal contributions per 90 for the Reds, which is higher than Jota (0.70) Nunez (0.58) and Diaz (0.57).

But even going beyond his small sample size this season, last season Chiesa showed in Serie A he can be a really impactful player in the opposition's final third.

He ranked in the top 10 among wingers for goals per 90 (0.32) and only one player averaged more xA per 90 (0.26) than Chiesa in the league.

The Italian's creative numbers were particularly impressive.

He averaged the second most key passes (1.03 per 90) and ranked among the top five players for shot creating actions (4.79 per 90).

On his full debut at Anfield, Chiesa created the most chances against West Ham in the League Cup and was lively causing plenty of problems and drawing the most fouls, too.

He's a great player valued at €24m by Football Transfers which is almost half the fee Liverpool paid to sign him.

Every time he has been on the pitch, he has made an impact, with the exception of Liverpool's miserable FA Cup game against Plymouth, perhaps.

Yet for some reason, Chiesa has not been given the same amount of chances as Diaz, Nunez or Jota.

But that should change. The aforementioned trio are not performing well. Liverpool are struggling to create as many chances in front of goal and have not been entirely efficient at putting their chances away either.

Based on the numbers, Chiesa is someone who can come in right now and fix that. Given apart from the Carabao Cup final, Liverpool's fate is pretty much settled for the rest of the season, Slot should be building for the future.

We've seen enough of Jota, Diaz and Nunez to determine they are probably not going to be part of that long-term future but Chiesa is a question mark.

Which is why the Italian should be getting an unexpected first team promotion considering and finally making some starts in Slot's senior team.
