Liverpool standings – Reds' Premier League position after draw to Brighton

Liverpool dropped points for their second successive Premier League game as they were held to a 2-2 draw in Sunday's early-afternoon clash with Brighton.

After a catalogue of defensive errors, the Reds went behind after 20 minutes, with Simon Adringa robbing the ball from under Alexis Mac Allister's nose before catching a back-peddling Alisson off his line and slotting home to open the scoring.

Liverpool would turn the game around before the break, albeit against the run of play, with Mohamed Salah finishing off a brilliantly worked move to equalise five minutes off the interval, before smashing in a penalty on the stroke of half time.

However, twelve minutes from time, Lewis Dunk volleyed home from a Solly March free-kick to salvage a point for the Seagulls, holding the Reds to a frustrating draw.

Jurgen Klopp's side went into the game off the back of last week's refereeing disasterclass at Tottenham, which led to their first league defeat of the season.

Nevertheless, they went into the game inside the top four, placed third in the league, level on points with Arsenal.

However, after dropping points at the Amex and results not going their way elsewhere, their position has changed.

Liverpool Standings

After Arsenal pulled off a massive 1-0 win over Manchester City in Sunday's late kick-off, the Gunners have overtaken Liverpool in the league, pushing the Reds into fourth place.

They sit one point above Brighton, who could have also overtaken the Reds with a win today, as well as Aston Villa, who drew today against West Midlands rivals Wolves.

Liverpool are now three points off top spot, with Arsenal and Tottenham level at the helm of the Premier League, and after their defeat at the Emirates, they only sit one point adrift off Manchester City in third.

International break now - but after that, it's the Merseyside Derby as Liverpool play host to Everton on Saturday, October 21.
