Liverpool standings - Reds' Premier League position after draw at Man City

Trent Alexander-Arnold was the man for the moment as Liverpool came from behind to take a vital point at Manchester City.

A catalogue of individual errors brought about City's opener - Nathan Ake collected Alisson's miscued clearance and easily bypassed two players in red, before slotting Erling Haaland through to open the scoring in the 27th minute.

However, Alexander-Arnold brought Liverpool parity 10 minutes from time, taking up the ball on the edge of the box before drilling it into the far corner.

Despite a mixed performance, the Reds saw out the game to pick up a point in what has proven to be a defining fixture in past Premier League seasons for the club.

Jurgen Klopp should be happy with the result considering the circumstances, ticking off one of the toughest tests Liverpool will face this season.

However, the Reds now stare to down the barrel of a busy festive period - a time that will likely prove pivotal if they are to achieve domestic success this season.

A lot can change over Christmas.

Liverpool's Premier League standings

Liverpool's draw kept them within touching distance of the reigning Premier League champions, sitting one point behind City on 28 points.

However, results elsewhere meant they dropped down a place to third, with a late Kai Havertz goal giving Arsenal all three points at Brentford and sending the Gunners to the top of the table.

This means Klopp's side now sit two points off first place.

The Reds could drop further to fourth if Tottenham manage to beat Aston Villa on Sunday - or if Villa manage to beat Spurs by six goals.

Next up, Liverpool have a double gameweek at Anfield - first taking on LASK in the Europa League, before hosting Fulham on Sunday afternoon.

The task is clear: two wins from two, please.
