Liverpool SPY on Arsenal ahead of title clash

It was another great weekend at the top of the table for Liverpool. First the Reds beat Southampton at Anfield on Saturday with goals from Darwin Nunez and Mohamed Salah (2) helping the hosts to a decisive 3-1 victory.

That win put Arne Slot’s side 16 points clear at the top of the table in the title race for a day at least with second-place Arsenal not in action until Sunday afternoon against Manchester United at Old Trafford.

The Gunners were unable to do what Liverpool did earlier in the season - win comprehensively away from home against United - and could only claw back a single point in a title race that now looks a foregone conclusion.

Arsenal have got 10 games to turn around a 15-point deficit and Liverpool’s lead at this stage looks unassailable. Although the Merseysiders have played a game more, it’ll take a collapse of monumental proportions to prevent a first title since 2020.

Liverpool coach spotted at Old Trafford

As part of their run-in, Liverpool will take on Arsenal with the possibility now very much alive that the North London side will be facing a side already crowned Premier League champions.

At one stage it appeared the Anfield clash would be a title showdown of sorts but Liverpool’s impressive form - combined with Arsenal taking only one point from their last nine - it looks like being a coronation ceremony instead.

That said Liverpool continue to do their homework on upcoming opponents. One representative from the Reds’ coaching team was confirmed to be inside Old Trafford on Sunday for a 1-1 draw.

Goalkeeper coach Fabian Otte joined the club last summer as part of the post-Jurgen Klopp shakeup.

The German previously worked with the United States men’s national team. He left his post last July following the USMNT’s participation in the Copa America.

Otte posted an image on his Instagram Stories on Sunday which showed him in attendance, and he will no doubt have been taking notes on David Raya’s poor positioning on Bruno Fernandes’ free-kick.

Otte replaced John Achterberg at Anfield and has since been working alongside the likes of Alisson Becker and Caoimhin Kelleher.

He will have a new goalkeeper under his command next summer when Giorgi Mamardashvili joins after his loan spell at Valencia concludes.
