Liverpool are keen to sign Bayer Leverkusen defender Piero Hincapie who impressed in the German side's title-winning campaign last season.

Spanish outlet Fichajes have reported Liverpool have signalled their firm interest in bringing the young Ecuadorian defender to Anfield.

It is understood that the 22 year-old is also on Atletico Madrid's radar with Liverpool hoping to get ahead of the Spanish giants for the defender's signature.

Bayer Leverkusen Manager Xabi Alonso is in no rush to offload Hincapie though, following an incredible season individually and collectively.

JOE GOMEZ AND SEPP VAN DEN BERG COULD PAVE THE WAY FOR HINCAPIE

Liverpool could see a couple of their defenders depart Anfield but the end of the window which may result in The Reds delving into the market themselves for a potential replacement.

Sepp van den Berg looks set to leave Merseyside with Liverpool's valuation of above £20 million looking finally set to be reached, with Brentford and Leverkusen both seriously interested in the Dutchman.

Van den Berg has impressed during pre-season capitalising on his opportunity to impress Arne Slot which has only intensified admiration from the outside.

The 22 year-old has seen the club reject multiple offers thus far from Mainz - who he enjoyed an impressive loan spell with last season - and fellow German side Wolfsburg who also expressed their interest.

Joe Gomez is another Liverpool defender that could leave before the window closes as it's understood he was not part of the squad that defeated Ipswich Town last weekend as he explores potential transfer options in the bid for regular first-team minutes.

The 27 year-old was part of a deal that was agreed with Newcastle earlier this summer which would've seen Anthony Gordon move the other way in a solution for the Magpies to overcome their PSR issues.

Gomez and Gordon were set to complete medicals in Leipzig during the European Championships, but an alternative PSR solution from Eddie Howe's side saw the transfer fall through.
