Liverpool set to break Champions League final tradition ahead of Real Madrid meeting

Liverpool are set to break with tradition by eschewing a pre-Champions League final training camp ahead of their upcoming meeting with Real Madrid.

The Reds have prepared for their last two appearances in the showpiece fixture of European football's premier cup competition by heading to Marbella in the build-up.

In 2017-18, a 13-day gap between the end of the Premier League season and the Champions League decider allowed Klopp to take his squad to the south of Spain.

They spent four days preparing in the Andalusian sunshine prior to suffering a heartbreaking 3-1 defeat to this year's opponents Real.

Despite that disappointment, Liverpool returned to Marbella the following year as they made use of a three-week break ahead of a final clash with Tottenham.

And that time around they were, of course, rewarded with a 2-0 victory that brought a sixth European Cup to Anfield.

However, Klopp will be unable to take his squad to warmer climes in order to prepare for a rematch with Real this year.

Just six days separate their Premier League season-ending meeting with Wolves and the final in Paris - a turnaround that is considered too tight for a trip abroad.

As such, all preparations for the game will take place at the club's Kirkby training complex.

Real also appear unlikely to be able to take part in a pre-final training camp with the La Liga season finishing on the same date as the Premier League.

But, with the title already wrapped up, Carlo Ancelotti will have plenty of scope to rest players against Real Betis.
