Liverpool set to battle Manchester United and Bayern Munich for midfielder’s signature

Liverpool have been linked with RB Leipzig midfielder Konrad Laimer. However, they face competition from two European giants for his signature.

According to German outlet Kicker, as cited by SportWitness, Liverpool are 'looking' at bringing in the 24-year-old next summer.

However, they currently face competition from Premier League rivals Manchester United and German Champions Bayern Munich.

Julian Nagelsmann is said to be a big fan of the Austrian and he is looking for a midfielder to bring in next summer, with his former player Laimer being high on the list.

Someone else who is very knowledgeable about the RedBull model is Ralf Rangnick. A recent report from Bild claims that the German would advocate Laimer signing for the Red Devils.

Unfortunately for those clubs, Laimer 'wants to focus' on the end of the season with Leipzig before making any decisions on his future.

The German side are currently in the Europa League semi-final against Rangers and they also play against SC Freiburg in the DFB-Pokal final.

Anfield Watch Verdict

Laimer is primarily a box to box midfielder for Leipzig with his main job to win the ball back up the pitch. However, he can play every position in midfield and he's also been used as a right-back before.

In this campaign, he currently has five goals and six assists in 36 games for the German side.

The 24-year-olds contract is set to expire at the end of next season, which puts RB Leipzig in a very sticky situation.

They would ideally like to keep him but the RedBull clubs, Leipzig and Salzburg, are known to be feeder clubs to top teams. They develop young players with potential and then sell them on for a bigger fee.

That has worked for them in the past but if they want to be serious contenders for the league and European competitions, then they need to hold onto their best players.

Unfortunately, with all the current rumours surrounding Laimer, it's unlikely that he stays for another year.

The Austrian would be the perfect Jurgen Klopp player. He's versatile, hardworking and he runs a marathon every game.

If we don't re-sign the ageing James Milner at the end of this season then I think Konrad Laimer would be a worthy replacement for the veteran midfielder.
