Liverpool are reportedly set to join Manchester United in the race for Ajax's Antony this summer.

According to Jorge Nicola, as cited by LFC Transfer Room's Twitter account, the Reds are keen on signing the winger.

The report further adds that Liverpool and Ajax are currently in talks over a potential transfer this summer.

Premier League rivals Manchester United have also been heavily linked with the Brazilian, even going as far as to submit a £51 million bid that was apparently rejected by the Dutch side.

A report from the Telegraph, as cited by United Stand's Twitter account, has claimed that Ajax have put a price tag of £70 million on Antony this summer.

Anfield Watch Verdict

Antony's contract with Ajax doesn't expire until 2025, so the Dutch club are currently under no pressure to sell unless the Brazilian forces a move.

The 22-year-old joined Ajax in the summer of 2020 for a reported fee of £14 million from Brazilian side Sao Paulo.

Even if the Dutch Champions wait a year to cash in on him, they're still set to make a hefty profit.

Ever since joining the Eredivisie, Antony has impressed. In his first season at Ajax, he scored 10 goals and grabbed 10 assists in 46 games.

He improved on those numbers last season, scoring 12 goals and registering 10 assists in 33 games.

Antony is primarily a right winger, but he can also play as a left winger if needed.

Transfermarkt currently value the Brazilian at £31.50 million, a long way off the reported £70 million that Ajax want to sell him for this summer.

I would've taken Antony before Mohamed Salah signed his new deal at Liverpool. He would've been the perfect long-term replacement for the Egyptian.

However, if the 22-year-old was to come in this summer, then he'd be Salah's back-up.

So I can't see Fenway Sports Group signing a £70 million player to sit on the bench for most of the season.
