Wednesday evening will see Goodison Park’s final hosting of a Merseyside derby commence as Arne Slot gets his first taste of the rivalry.

It’s a rarity to say Liverpool are looking to return back to winning ways, but the Reds are doing just that as they make the short trip across Stanley Park to lock horns with the Toffees.

In the Premier League, however, Slot's side are unbeaten since that 1-0 loss to Nottingham Forest back in September.

Liverpool are six points clear of Arsenal, though the Gunners have played a game more.

This clash between the Merseyside rivals is the rearranged fixture from early December due to Storm Darragh. A lot has changed for the Toffees since then.

Sean Dyche has been replaced by David Moyes and the returning boss has had an immediate impact on the blue side of Merseyside.

With him in the dugout, Everton have picked up wins over Spurs, Brighton and Leicester City before Bournemouth knocked them out of the FA Cup on Saturday.

The Blues also hold the bragging rights after earning victory in Jurgen Klopp’s final Merseyside Derby with goals from Jarrard Branthwaite and Dominic Calvert-Lewin earning Everton a 2-0 win.

The Toffees will be looking to sign off from Goodison Park in style as they look to continue where they left off in midweek and record back-to-back victories against Liverpool for the first time since May 1985.

The Blues will be relocating to their new home - at the Bramley Moor Dock - at the beginning of the 2025/26 campaign.

As for the Reds, they will be seeking an elusive 100th victory in all competitions over Everton on Saturday.

It’s a game where form and current league positions go out there window. Not just because it’s the Merseyside derby, but because it’s the final clash between the two sides at Goodison Park.

The Everton players will be up for it as much as the fans and Liverpool will certainly have to be at their best to maintain their lead at the summit of the Premier League table.
