Liverpool are on the hunt for new players to refresh the team in the summer.

Very little money was spent in the last transfer window, and now that Arne Slot has demonstrated what he's capable of, he deserves to be given licence to buy some players who can help the squad.

The Dutchman's coaching methods can only improve the players so much, and failure to invest in positions of need will only lead to the same errors proving costly to the team in the long-run.

Across the Premier League a number of clubs and players have improved two-fold this year and now that they are familiar with the needs and demands of such a competitive environment, Liverpool will be paying keen attention to any major success stories.

One such player is Carlos Baleba at Brighton, who are looking likely to secure a place in Europe this season and his performance against Manchester City at the Etihad yesterday was particularly impressive.

Liverpool's long-term Gravenberch understudy solution found?

Finding a defensive midfielder in the transfer market last season seemed to be incredibly difficult for Liverpool after Martin Zubimendi snubbed the club's approaches.

As such, Slot needed to adapt to the players who were already in the Reds' squad, moulding Ryan Gravenberch into a hybrid No. 6 - move that has proven to be nothing short of genius.

However, the club has been fortunate that the Dutchman has managed to stay fit for as long as he has this season, allowing Alexis Mac Allister to play as a central midfielder and Wataru Endo to become the ultimate end of game closer.

But a player will be needed next season to supplement the efforts of Gravenberch and one of the candidates that we believe Liverpool should be considering is Baleba at Brighton.

The 21-year-old Cameroon international is still learning his trade for the Seagulls, but he is an extremely similar profile to Gravenberch - confident on the ball, constantly involved in duels, making interceptions and tackles, while sending long-balls into the forwards.

He moved from Lille in 2023 for £23.4m, however his value has almost doubled in that time. According to Football Transfers, he is valued at €50.4m (£42.4m), so it might prove to be in Liverpool's best interest to snap him up while he is still young.

We've already seen what Slot is capable of doing with Gravenberch this season, and Liverpool would be in a significantly better position concerning their midfield depth if Baleba could be brought in, and similarly transformed for a reasonable fee.

Of course, Liverpool will be looking at everyone before making any formal approaches, and no moves can be formally negotiated until the transfer window opens in June, however, it would be surprising if Baleba was not on a shortlisted option given the immense talent and skill he has at such a young age.
