Man United and Ruben Amorim just gave Liverpool a HUGE transfer boost
Ruben Amorim’s appointment as manager of Manchester United has multiple ramifications for Liverpool as well as their (not-so) fierce rivals.
And not just what they might pose on the pitch. Liverpool have recently been linked to multiple players at Amorim’s now-former club Sporting Lisbon, as well as both clubs having similar transfer targets for the upcoming windows.

However, a new report in The Telegraph suggests that Manchester United’s upcoming transfer budget isn’t expected to be at competitive levels.
“Ruben Amorim is set to operate on a more modest budget to Erik ten Hag at Manchester United and will be tasked with maximising the untapped potential in the squad,” writes James Ducker, “as the club aim to end the damaging and costly cycle of mass overhauls.”
This boosts Liverpool’s chances on multiple fronts. The first would be regarding Sporting’s star striker Viktor Gyokeres, with rumours linking him to Manchester United emerging as soon as it appeared Amorim would become their coach.
Rumours linking Gyokeres and Liverpool, however, date back months. The Swedish international is arguably the best striker in the world right now, notching 16 league goals in 11 games and adding 5 in the Champions League, including a hat-trick in their 4-1 demolition of Manchester City.
He would be a distinct option from either Darwin Nunez or Diogo Jota in the role but could add unstoppable firepower alongside Liverpool’s outstanding wide players.
Man United out of left-back race too
Another area that Man United’s lack of funds aids Liverpool is for the services of Bournemouth left-back Milos Kerkez.
Liverpool and Kerkez have been linked over the past few months due to a number of factors, namely Andy Robertson’s drop in performance level and Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes signing Kerkez when he was in a similar role at Bournemouth.
And we reported over the weekend that Liverpool have asked for permission to open preliminary talks with the Hungarian.
But Manchester United’s interest in Kerkez has also been noted and a bidding war was not out of the question.
Kerkez’s brace of assists in Bournemouth’s 2-1 defeat of Manchester City a few weeks ago thrust him into the spotlight, showcasing his potential effectiveness for a Liverpool side who can win every competition they are in this season.
We will have to wait and see what Amorim’s effect in Manchester is. But Liverpool should be ready to capitalise when the opportunities present themselves.
