Liverpool’s recruitment team have been responsible for some excellent additions over the last few seasons, but their focus hasn’t just been on the first team.

Stars such as Ryan Gravenberch, Luis Diaz and Cody Gakpo have all arrived in recent seasons and have all played a key role in Arne Slot’s early season success.

It isn’t just the first team that has benefited from the Reds’ smart recruitment though, as the academy has been bolstered by some impressive talents too.

Players like Amara Nallo, Harvey Elliott, Alvin Ayman and Rio Ngumoha have all signed for Liverpool in the past five years as prospects for the future.

With Harvey Elliott already a prominent first team member, it looks like another of the Reds’ young signings isn’t too far away from making the step up.

Rio Ngumoha’s spectacular assist

In Liverpool’s most recent UEFA Youth League game, Ngumoha showed once again just how high his ceiling is, providing an assist to put the young Reds 3-1 up.

Ngumoha beat three Bayer Leverkusen players before sliding a through ball to Keyrol Figueroa, who tucked it neatly into the top right corner of the goal.

The Reds emerged 4-1 victors over Leverkusen and Kieran Morrison, Carter Pinnington and Trent Kone-Doherty also found themselves on the score sheet.

Ngumoha’s assist has even drawn comparisons to Neymar, and Liverpool could have a real talent on their hands who isn’t far off being a part of the first team.

The signing of Ngumoha

The 16-year-old arrived in Merseyside from Chelsea this summer and a tribunal will take place to decide how much the Anfield side owe the West London club.

When Liverpool completed the singing of Elliott from Fulham, it was decided that the club would pay £1.5 million plus £2.8 million in bonuses by the same process that will decide Ngumoha’s fee.

The singing of Ngumoha came before the youngster could make a first team appearance for the Blues, and this will give Liverpool a boost as it is likely to mean the fee they have to pay is reduced.

No matter what Slot’s side end up paying for 16-year-old Ngumoha, it is clear that they have a star in their academy who is more than capable of breaking into Slot’s starting XI in years to come.
