Richard Hughes is facing a busy transfer deadline with Liverpool needing to sell at least five more players who are surplus to requirements. 

This has been a far from ideal start to Richard Hughes' career at Liverpool. The summer transfer window has reaped little rewards for Liverpool so far.

If anything, there has been only disappointment with a deal for Martin Zubimendi, seeming like it was going to get wrapped up - falling through at the last minute as the Spaniard opted to stay at Real Sociedad.

And it's not just on the arrival front where Hughes has struggled to fulfil expectations. At the moment, he also has a job on his hands to sell players who are not considered to be Liverpool's first team squad.

The five players Liverpool MUST sell

It goes without question that with the introduction of the Premier League's new Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) it has become even more important for clubs to be able to sell assets for as much as possible.

Liverpool had been very effective at doing that in the past, selling players on for big profits, but so far this summer Hughes has struggled to generate as much funds for the Reds as he would have hoped. Liverpool may have sold Fabio Carvalho for up to £27.5m with add ons to Southampton and could sell Bobby Clark for £10m to Red Bull Salzburg but there are still several players who Hughes has not been able to move on.

One of those includes Sepp van den Berg, who Liverpool have been unable to sell for their asking price, which has caused clubs to pull out from the race. The Dutchman clearly doesn't want to stay at Anfield and his future must be sorted before the transfer deadline.

The same can be said for Nat Phillips and Rhys Williams. Neither can be considered genuine first team options and must be moved onto permanent deals elsewhere.

Away from the trio, Owen Beck is another who deserves to move on in a permanent deal. The Welsh U21 international is 22 years old, and it seems unlikely that he will make it at Liverpool. However, he is a sellable asset and Liverpool could stand to make a good profit on him.

Not only from him but also from Tyler Morton, who is another name unlikely to make it at Anfield but whose stock is high at the moment and thus should be sold for maximum profit.

Selling the aforementioned quintet to generate more profit should be the bare minimum for Hughes. There's still plenty to sort out when it comes to arrivals as well.
