Liverpool could be back in for Real Madrid’s Rodrygo, according to reports from Spain. It follows on from an attempt to sign the player in 2018.

Spanish outlet Sport claims Liverpool are amongst the clubs hoping to sign Rodrygo this summer. The Brazilian's future is now in doubt as Real Madrid are set to sign attackers later this year.

And not just any attackers, either. Endrick will certainly arrive from Palmeiras as one of the brightest prospects in world football. Real completed a deal for the teenager some time ago, but he'll only move to the Spanish capital this summer.

But, of course, the bigger signing is almost certainly going to be Kylian Mbappé. The Frenchman is out of contract in the summer and is widely reported to be signing with Real.

Both arrivals will push Rodrygo down the pecking order, with Vinicius Jr and Jude Bellingham already operating in advanced roles for Real. That's led to several clubs asking about Rodrygo - though, Real have told them he's not for sale.

However, the report states that things could change but only for a starting price of £85m.

Liverpool back in for Rodrygo

Liverpool are big fans of Rodrygo - or at least, they were in 2018. The Reds tried to sign the Brazilian before he moved to Real Madrid and for a fraction of the cost.

Elano, who worked at Santos at the time, explained the situation in 2019.

“There was a period when there was a very strong negotiation from Liverpool for him to leave when he was still very young,” Elano told ESPN.

“The values were very low, but he wanted to go. Real’s offer later was around 30 million euros (around £25m) more.

“I had a conversation with people at Santos and I said that the boy was worth the bet [of rejecting Liverpool's bid] and we should raise him because I would like to work with him."

That offer from Real was for €45m, meaning Liverpool were close to getting him for roughly €15m, or a little over £10m. Of course, Rodrygo would cost far more than that now.

Still, second time the charm?
