Liverpool reportedly make an approach for Ajax's Antony
Even though it has been claimed that Liverpool's transfer window has closed, reports are stating the Reds have approached Ajax to try and sign Antony.
Last week, a Brazilian report claimed that Jurgen Klopp's side were keen on signing the winger.
The story even went as far as to say that Liverpool and Ajax were currently in negotiations about a potential deal for Antony.
Now, Football Insider are also reporting that Liverpool have enquired about signing the 22-year-old this summer. They claim that the Dutch side value Antony at £59 million after two impressive seasons in the Eredivisie.
However, the report further adds that Liverpool are not expected to pay the aforementioned fee for the Brazilian even though he features prominently on their list of attacking targets.
Anfield Watch Verdict
Liverpool would be crazy to pay £59 million for Antony in my opinion.
He would arguably be a squad player at Anfield, as the Reds are already stacked in attack (Mohamed Salah, Luis Diaz, Darwin Nunez, Diogo Jota and Roberto Firmino).
I don't think Antony would want to play second fiddle, especially considering that he is a starter for Ajax.
In saying that, the winger would be a decent addition in the long-term. Antony is only 22 years of age and he averaged a WhoScored player rating of 7.47 in the Eredivise last season. He is certainly a talented youngster.
Who knows, Manchester United, who have been heavily linked with the Brazilian, might drop the ball and he could stay at Ajax for another season, opening the door for Liverpool to make a move in the future.
