Liverpool reportedly lead the race for a Bundesliga midfielder

Liverpool are leading the race to sign Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Denis Zakaria, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport, as cited by LFC Transfer Room's Twitter account.

The report states that the 25-year-old would love to work under Reds boss Jurgen Klopp.

Zakaria's contract expires at the end of the 2021-22 campaign. Therefore, the Swiss international will be available on a free transfer next summer.

However, if Liverpool would like to add Zakaria to their ranks earlier than next season, he will reportedly cost somewhere between £7-£8.5 million in January.

Zakaria would be a good signing for Liverpool. The midfielder certainly possesses experience and quality.

Zakaria has made 140 appearances for Borussia Monchengladbach's first-team.

The 25-year-old has also been averaging a WhoScored player rating of 7.10 in the early stages of the 2021-22 Bundesliga campaign.

If Liverpool are genuinely interested in signing Zakaria, it will be interesting to see if the club attempts to bring him to Anfield in January or next summer when he is available on a free transfer.
