Liverpool are reportedly interested in Chelsea's Timo Werner despite missing out on signing him in 2020.

According to Football Insider, a club source has said that Liverpool are interested in Werner but that it is still in the early stages and no discussions have taken place with Chelsea yet.

The report also claims that Jurgen Klopp and his recruitment team believe the Chelsea striker would be better suited to Liverpool’s style of play.

They think Werner can thrive in a high-tempo style that wins the ball up the pitch and can then release him into one v one situations.

Anfield Watch Verdict

This story is a bit of a strange one. On one hand, Werner would probably be good in Liverpool's system, however, he has been dreadful since signing for Chelsea in 2020 for a reported fee of £47m.

In the 56 games he's played for the Blues in the Premier League, the German has only scored 10 goals and got 13 assists, a pretty poor return for a striker.

It was not a secret that Klopp was an admirer of Werner while he was at RB Leipzig and there were even reports that the pair had spoken about him potentially playing for the Reds.

However, a move never happened and Sky Sports reported that it was because Liverpool were hit hard financially by COVID-19 and unable to pay his €55m release clause.

At the time, a lot of Liverpool fans were quite frustrated with the club for not completing this signing but in the long run, it has worked out well.

Now onto the recent links. There is no way Liverpool sign Werner. Chelsea would ask for a ridiculous fee even if he has been terrible.

The fact that Werner is also earning £272k per week, according to Spotrac, all but puts an end to these reports in my eyes.

Also, with us signing Darwin Nunez, we don't really need a striker anymore.

There's no point looking in the past and what could have been, let's start looking to the future.
