Liverpool's rivalry with Real Madrid has been taken up a notch over the last few years.

Traditionally, it was on the basis of the two clubs' European Cup successes, however the dynamic shifted after the turn of the century.

Steve McManaman and Michael Owen famously made the move from Merseyside to Madrid which has stirred up tensions, although Liverpool were able to keep hold of Steven Gerrard when Los Blancos made an approach.

The last decade has seen the rivalry closely fought on the pitch, with Liverpool sadly coming up short in two Champions League finals, although the Reds comprehensively beat the Galacticos at Anfield this season.

And now we are back to the transfer saga, with Trent Alexander-Arnold set to leave his boyhood club in search of a Ballon d'Or over becoming a member of Liverpool's greatest ever list, and Madrid aren't set to stop there either.

Now that Trent is secured, Madrid want Gravenberch

Real Madrid are largely considered to be the biggest club in the world, who could sign anyone they wanted at the drop of a hat, and they are really trying to push Liverpool to the limit right now.

According to Voetbal4u, a Dutch football website, the Spanish giants are eyeing a move for Ryan Gravenberch, who is possibly the Reds most prized possession outside of Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent.

The young midfielder has flourished under Arne Slot this season, having been given the keys to become the Reds' defensive midfielder full-time.

From the depths of disappointment after Martin Zubimendi snubbed the club, Gravenberch helped raise spirits and then some with his performances.

But of course, as with all nice things that Liverpool happen to have, they don't last forever and something is always waiting around the corner to pull on the heartstrings of the Reds' insecurities.

Liverpool have six European Cups, which easily could've been more had it not have been for Real Madrid defying them in finals and tempting the club's players away.

Aurelien Tchouameni was one of the defensive midfield targets before he moved to Spain and Jude Bellingham was greatly admired before he decided to head in the same direction.

And now this season, we might see Trent and Gravenberch follow the same pathway. Football is cruel, isn't it?

The report claims that while he is happy on Merseyside, Liverpool's No.6 is interested in the move because he considers Real Madrid to be 'the best in the world'.

Of course, the stature of Madrid is nothing the fans aren't already aware of, and it makes sense that a successful young player is on their radar, but Liverpool will hardly be forthcoming to help facilitate a move.

Gravenberch is an integral member of the midfield that the club has created and it would be disgraceful if the transfer link was even slightly entertained.

For the time being, we can put this down as nothing to worry about.
