According to reports a few weeks ago, Liverpool had been monitoring Napoli's Georgian winger Khvicha Kvaratskehlia, as he had declared his intention to move away from the club.

However, it was understood that Paris Saint Germain were already ahead in the negotiations for the player and subsequently his move to France was confirmed earlier this week. Many have speculated that FSG had been up to their old tricks again, almost 'pretending' to be interested in a player to keep the attention away from the ongoing off-the-pitch issues.

But the Reds have subsequently been linked with a new player who has a similar profile to Kvaratskehlia and it seems likely that Liverpool will need a new winger if some of the team's current personnel move on.

Liverpool interested in Gittens

As reported earlier today by Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool have "a strong interest" in Jamie Gittens, with the Reds "closely monitoring" him.

The Englishman has been on fire for Borussia Dortmund this season, delivering seven goals and four assists in the Bundesliga alongside four goals in the Champions League.

At just 20 years old, it is clear that he is a special talent that Liverpool should be keeping an eye on if they need to recruit a new winger in the future.

He is the Bundesliga's 10th most valuable player according to Football Transfers at €44.5M.

In addition, his attacking profile appears to be very similar to that of Kvaratskhelia, leading the way in progressive carries and successful take-ons per FBref, aspects that Arne Slot likes to see in his wingers.

Dribbling with the ball up the pitch and taking on a full-back in a one-on-one situation is integral to the way that Liverpool have played over the last few years, excelling in counter-attack situations while making a difference when the team comes up against a deep defensive block.

While it may seem as though Liverpool do not have space to fit a player of Gitten's stature at the club, there will potentially be several attacking outgoings at the end of the season.

Luis Diaz is still on the wage that he agreed when he first joined the club a few years ago, and if Liverpool decides to not improve his contract talks accordingly, then the Colombian may want to explore his options.

Darwin Nunez received a £70m bid from Saudi Arabia a few weeks ago, exclusively revealed by Anfield Watch, and unless his performances improve, his value to the club will be reconsidered and Liverpool may decide to cut their losses.

And finally, Mohamed Salah is at risk of leaving the club on a free contract at the end of the current campaign as his deal is set to expire in June. Unless an extension to his contract is agreed, Liverpool will lose one of their most prized assets and at least one player will be required to replace him.

As such, Liverpool's interest in Gittens is understandable if some of the club's attacking assets decide to move on and the remaining four months of the season will be crucial to deciding if a move forward for the Englishman is necessary.
