But the Under 19s are trying something at least a little different this time. They’ll have four youngsters in the Youth League squad for the very first time.

Scofield Lonmeni, Ollie O’Connor, Joe Bradshaw and Josh Sonni-Lambie will all get opportunities to earn minutes in Leipzig. It continues their excellent years, with all four making an impact at Under 18 level.

Now we get to see if they can step up a level and make a similar impact in European football.

Liverpool’s young quartet

Sonni-Lambie is perhaps the most exciting prospect - or at least, the one who’s made the biggest impact so far. He turns 17 next month but the striker scored his first goal for the Under 18s all the way back in April.

He’s got three this term, too, including one in the Under 18 Cup.

Both O’Connor and Bradshaw have goals for the U18s this season - and they came in the same game. The midfield pair are both just 16 and first-year scholars with Liverpool.

As is Lonmeni - though, he’s yet to find the next this season. That is largely down to him being the more defensive player of the bunch, operating at the base of midfield.

While it’s unlikely that all four start - in fact, it’s unlikely all four get on the pitch - it’s clear that Liverpool see them as the ‘next’ set of youngsters to make the step up. If they keep shining, the quartet could well be regulars by the end of the Youth League this season.
