Liverpool’s desire to bolster their attacking ranks has been well established across the course of this season.

Despite being on the verge of winning the Premier League, it is clear that Arne Slot isn’t very happy at all with the state of his squad in the attacking department.

Darwin Nunez, Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz could all be pushed out of the door at the end of this season as Liverpool aim at a full retooling ahead of an extended run at English dominance.

This also coincides with still being unsure whether talisman Mo Salah will be at the club next season.

It is unlikely the club would choose to have to replace every starting player across the attacking line, but sometimes needs must. The club are not hiding their desire for a new striker - potentially Newcastle’s Alexander Isak if they get their way - but wingers are necessary also.

One well-founded rumour is for Lyon’s Rayan Cherki.

Liverpool get even closer to signing Lyon's Cherki

Due to Lyon’s ongoing financial troubles they have had to - or will have to - deal a lot of their players out at cut-price deals and will be doing so this coming summer.

And Liverpool have been handed a huge boost in this regard as gold star French outlet L’equipe are reporting Lyon have struck an agreement to let Cherki go this summer if a deal emerges for him.

Valued at €31.4m by Football Transfers, Cherki presents a profile Liverpool don’t particularly have on their books at the minute: someone who can handily play both out wide and at number 10.

He is a technically astounding player, able to take on players and find line-breaking passes in close quarters. It is something Liverpool could have done with at numerous points this season due to the nature of teams sitting in behind them.

And whilst Salah has done his best to do this himself, and managed it consistently, having multiple players who can be depended on in these scenarios is better squad building by the Reds.

As a result, a deal for Cherki should be a priority for Liverpool. He has eight goals and 18 assists across 34 games in Ligue 1, Europa League and the Coupe de France.

This includes a run of three goals and six assists in his past seven league games - including against PSG - with five wins in that time dragging Lyon to fifth in the league at time of writing.

He also bagged four assists in the Europa League Round of 16 demolition of Steaua Bucharest and gets the chance to endear himself properly to Liverpool fans when Lyon face Manchester United in the quarter-finals.

If he humiliates them like we know he can then Richard Hughes may try and sign him before he can even get back on the plane.
