PSG to find their ‘FUTURE’ when Liverpool visit for Champions League tie
Paris Saint-Germain’s (PSG) interest in Liverpool centre-back Ibrahima Konate seemed to shoot up out of nowhere in the past week or so.
It doesn’t have a complete lack of sense, mind. He recently captained his native France and grew up in the City of Light, starting his career with the city’s second side, Paris FC.

But for any player in the burgeoning stages of his career, playing out of his mind for the best team in the world, talk of a move away sounds somewhat silly.
Yet the talk emerged all the same. And Konate did nothing to dispel it in an interview with French channel Telefoot.
“It’s clear that hearing big clubs like that interested in me is very flattering. Now I’m focusing on this season to win everything and take as many titles as possible.
“As for my contractual situation, I’ll let my agents take care of it.”
That isn’t exactly what you’d want to hear from a man who is under contract with Liverpool until the end of the 2026 season. Particularly when the club are trying to extend said contract and having difficulty in doing so.

And, at the worst time possible, the Reds have now been drawn against PSG in the next round of the Champions League. And it’s given the French media every excuse to talk about the Reds in every capacity they want - least of all stealing one of their star players.
The French media are pushing Konate to PSG
In a new article by Eurosport FC, the links are unapologetic. They reference an interview Konate had back in 2023 in which he said, “All my older brothers have been PSG fans since I was a child… It’s in our genes, it’s the Parisian genes.”

And now they are claiming that Konate would “tick a lot of boxes” for what PSG are looking for. In playstyle and in recruitment, he is suddenly the perfect target for the club.
“Despite his solid experience, Ibrahima Konate is only 25 years old. Here again, the profile of a player on the upward curve would corroborate with PSG’s new policy, focused on young players with high potential. Thus, the Frenchman could very well represent the future of the capital club.”

This talk is only going to continue as Liverpool visit the French capital on 5th March for the first leg of the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 tie. But it’s also the perfect opportunity for the Reds to show Konate just what he’d be missing if he was to make that decision.
Konate is a consummate professional and will do everything to win that game of football. But it might be worth Arne Slot going to his experienced players and telling them to really stick it to the Parisians to that Konate may just think twice about taking an extended trip back home.
