Incredible Liverpool 'supersub' stat following Old Trafford defeat

Liverpool are still reeling from the disappointment of their FA Cup quarter-final defeat to Manchester United at Old Trafford.

The Reds’ hopes of a quadruple in Jurgen Klopp’s final season in charge are at an end but the Anfield club are still alive in the Premier League and Europa League, having already bagged the Carabao Cup in the final against Chelsea last month.

Klopp’s side are level on points with Arsenal at the top of the league table with Manchester City breathing down their necks and also have a Europa League quarter-final against Atalanta to look forward to.

There’s every chance the 56-year-old can sign off with a treble, adding to his already impressive Anfield trophy collection.

To do so will require a squad effort with so many games still looming on the horizon and the Merseysiders just about emerging on the other side of an injury crisis.

Top stars like Alisson Becker, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Curtis Jones and Diogo Jota will hopefully be not far away from a first-team return when the players re-emerge following the March international break.

To get to this point of the season, all of Jurgen Klopp’s squad have had to play their part and there have even been contributions from the Liverpool academy boys.

And that contribution is borne out by an incredible stat which came out on Sunday.

Reds producing from the bench

With Harvey Elliott’s goal in extra time against United, it was confirmed that Liverpool have had 23 goals scored by substitutes in all competitions this season, the most of any club in Europe’s top five leagues.

In the Premier League the Red have produced multiple goals from the likes of Darwin Nunez (3), Cody Gakpo (2) and Diogo Jota (2). Also on target when sprung from the bench have been Elliott, Mohamed Salah, Luis Diaz and Wataru Endo.

Klopp has got the magic touch in producing numbers from his replacements. Let’s hope it can continue between now and the end of the season, and Liverpool’s supersubs can keep on scoring.
