Each year, a player or players really announce themselves onto the scene with their fantastic contributions to the team, putting in world class performances and hitting astronomical heights.

This season in 2024, that has been the accolades of Ryan Gravenberch and Conor Bradley.

Gravenberch has stepped into the defensive midfield role and really cemented himself as the first name on the team sheet. After a rocky start to life at Liverpool, Arne Slot has unlocked a different player in the Dutchman who looks effortless when skating on the turf.

Bradley has the world at his feet. Competing for the right-back role against arguably the best in the world in Trent Alexander-Arnold is testament to his unwavering talent and ability. With Trent’s future looking uncertain on Merseyside, fans need not be worried about a replacement with one ready made and raring to fill that hole.

But looking into next year, there is one Liverpool player who is set for a momentous 2025 and if keeps up his record from this year, who knows where he will find himself.

Breakthrough Player 2025 - Ben Doak

Ben Doak has been nothing short of a phenom. Sent out on loan to Middlesborough for the 2024/2025 season, no one could have expected the wave of confidence he would usher unto Teesside.

The 19-year-old’s playmaking and movement on and off the ball is enough to make grown men laugh. Having already contributed a total of seven goals and assists this season, his stats don’t do his performances justice.

This has also been enough to earn him senior call ups to the Scottish national team where he has starred in their Nations League campaign even bagging an assist against Poland.

He has an air of arrogance but also poise to him. He always wants to run at defences similar to that of one Mohamed Salah. And this should excite Liverpool fans.

Doak to replace Salah?

With the future of Salah also looking in doubt, Doak could be the unlikely but exciting replacement.

He’s shone in a league which is tough to compete in and helped Michael Carrick’s side move to within just two points of the play-offs.

Carrick commented on Doak in the Times saying “He’s a fantastic player, with a great attitude. He means different as in more willing to take risks than most modern players”

Doak seems refreshing. He offers something different which other players lack. He is clearly too good for the Championship with multiple Premier League clubs also interested in the Scotsman including Leicester, Brentford and Crystal Palace. The boy is hot property.

There is also the option to recall him from his loan early. Middlesbrough fans will be hoping this isn’t the case so he can help them push into those play-off places, but if the opportunity comes knocking, Doak will be raring to prove to Arne Slot that he is up to the task of replacing the Egyptian King and becoming a legend in his own right.

Remembering that Doak is still incredibly young is key. It would be unwise to rush his development. But the sheer amount of maturity that he has already shown highlights to us that he will be one to watch with 2025 being his breakthrough year.
