Liverpool plotting to keep Rhys Williams at club past January

Young defender Rhys Williams is currently not set to be leaving the Reds in the near future with the club planning on using him as a fifth-choice centre-half if Nathaniel Phillips leaves before next week's deadline.

Williams featured a fair bit last season as Liverpool were hit by a ridiculous injury crisis in the middle of defence, with him joining Phillips at times in the heart of the back four.

At the start of this season, it was decided he would head out on loan to Swansea City to earn more experience but he has since been recalled, and could well remain at Liverpool for the rest of this year at least.

This comes from the Liverpool Echo:

Anfield Watch Verdict

It does seem more than feasible that Phillips is going to leave Liverpool before the end of the window and so having that extra cover that Williams can provide might make sense.

Of course, if Phillips stays then Williams might have needed another loan but ultimately you can't predict the future.

This seems the best course of action.
