The month of July for football players marks the end of the holiday season and the beginning of the pre-season, however for fans it signals the return of Fantasy Football.

The game that ruins friendships and gives football Twitter some of the greatest forfeits for finishing last place in your league. Because of this, your team selection can become very important.

Remember: not every great player is a great FPL player.

Here are the top six Liverpool players (and their values) that you should think about when creating your team.

Mohamed Salah

Price: 12.5m

Points in 2022/23: 239

Probably the easiest decision for all Liverpool fans, this man has been the highest scoring Merseyside FPL player since his arrival in 2017 and finished 77 points ahead of the Reds’ second highest scoring player last season.

19 goals last season for Salah is low by his incredible standards, but a whopping 13 assists (his second highest in the Premier League) brought up his total massively. The Egyptian exceeded his expected assists total of 7.03 and guarantees you availability, starting all but one Premier League game last season.

He was also the third highest scoring player in the whole of the Premier League, behind the expected Erling Haaland and Harry Kane.

All in all, a no brainer.

Alisson

Price: 5.5m

Points in 2022/23:169

From Liverpool’s highest scorer, to their second — Alisson managed 162 points for the Reds last season.

Similar to Salah, Alisson started all but one of Liverpool’s games last season, managing 14 clean sheets in a what was ultimately a disappointing season for Jurgen Klopp’s Reds. However, with 107 saves, the Brazilian is the perfect shot stopper to gather you extra bonus points.

With the ongoing midfield revamp, one hopes that Liverpool’s defence gains extra protection, meaning more clean sheets for the 30-year-old, who managed a whopping 20 in the 2021/22 season.

Averaging a goal involvement a season over the last four years doesn’t go amiss for a goalkeeper. Who could forget that last minute winner against West Brom in 2021!

At £5.5m, it’s certainly worth a shot, with Manchester City rival Ederson the other highlight at that price.

Alexis Mac Allister

Price: 6m

Points in 2022/23: 140

Alexis Mac Allister is most definitely the bargain player in this Liverpool squad after his summer move from Brighton & Hove Albion. With 140 points last season, the Argentinian would've ranked fourth for total points in Liverpool's squad in 2022/23 — exactly double their highest scoring midfielder, Fabinho.

With ten goals and two assists in 31 starts, Mac Allister is on track to reach and pass that total under Klopp, with an expected goal involvement of 16.32.

When you compare Mac Allister to the likes of Kevin De Bruyne (10.5m), Marcus Rashford (9m) and plenty more, 6m is a steal for a World Cup winner who has been praised regularly by Lionel Messi no less.

Luis Diaz

Price: 7.5m

Points in 2022/23: 62

Yet to have a full season at Liverpool, Luis Diaz is one of Jurgen Klopp’s most exciting talents. Only managing under half a season last year due to his injury, Diaz still scored 62 points, which set him up for a top five finish in the Reds’ FPL rankings.

The 26-year-old has quickly shown Anfield what he is capable of, with some standout beauties including a thunderous solo strike against Crystal Palace in his debut season.

At 7.5m, the Colombian is a potentially great purchase for your side, especially when compared to the whopping prices of Kevin de Bruyne (10.5m) and Marcus Rashford (9m) who may be guaranteed points-getters, but decrease the budget for getting high-quality players elsewhere in your team.

Trent Alexander-Arnold

Price: 8m

Points in 2022/23: 156

It’s no surprise Trent Alexander-Arnold is the most expensive defender in the game, 1.5m clear of second place Andy Robertson. However the level that the Englishmen has shown since making his league debut in 2017 matches the price.

In the last five seasons, the 24-year-old has plenty of assists to his name. 13, 15, 8, 12 and 11 last season. He also comes with goals, and with his new midfield role, we certainly expect to see more from the Englishmen, who will be bursting into the final third every chance he gets.

Along with the goals and assists, Alexander-Arnold also provides a bunch of clean sheets — ten last season, despite all the issues.

Cody Gakpo

Price: 7.5m

Points in 2022/23: 90

At £35m, Cody Gakpo could be one of the bargains of the century. After failing to score or assist in any of his first six Liverpool games, the Dutchmen ended the season with seven goals and three assists in just 17 league starts.

We certainly haven’t seen the heights of the 24-year-old, who is only just getting started in a Liverpool shirt. At 7.5m, Gakpo is well priced — not too expensive and a player who is likely to guarantee you goals and assists throughout the whole season.

And with the new additions of playmakers Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai, Gakpo will certainly be getting many more chances at the top end of the pitch.

Beware though, he counts as a forward this season and not a midfielder.
