Fabrizio Romano says there has been 'no contact' from Liverpool over Pedri

Ever since Arne Slot was linked to the Liverpool manager's job, rumours have started to swirl about potential incomings at Anfield this upcoming transfer window. However, one man almost certainly won't be making the move to Merseyside.

Amid speculation of substantial funds being available for acquisitions to address any transitional challenges this summer, renowned football journalist Fabrizio Romano has dispelled notions of a surprise move for Barcelona's Pedri.

Writing in his Daily Briefing, Romano reported that a transfer to Merseyside isn't on the horizon for the young midfield sensation.

He said: "Despite what has been reported elsewhere, I can guarantee that there is nothing between Pedri and Liverpool, or between Liverpool and Barcelona for Pedri.

"The situation is completely quiet."

Barcelona want to build their team around young talents

Pedri, a prodigious talent who has risen through Barcelona's ranks over the past four years, garnered significant attention by clinching the Golden Boy award in 2021 at the tender age of 18—an achievement lauded across footballing circles.

Naturally, this attracted attention from various clubs across Europe, including Liverpool, who had been linked with a £70-million move, as per The Express.

However, despite their financial struggles, the Blaugrana remain steadfast in their policy of building their squad around players from their La Masia academy.

"Pedri is really happy and always super committed to Barcelona, and he’s a crucial part of the project at the Nou Camp," said Romano.

Essentially, efforts to build the team around young players such as Pedri, Gavi, Pau Cubarsi and Lacine Yamal mean Pedri simply isn't for sale.

Liverpool's long-standing interest in Pedri

Although Liverpool already boast a squad brimming with creative playmakers such as Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai and Harvey Elliott, Pedri's hypothetical addition could offer a unique dimension to their midfield setup.

Proficient in a deeper-lying role akin to his mentor Xavi, Pedri's impressive resume at Barcelona, having featured in over 150 senior games and contributed 18 goals and 13 assists, underscores his potential impact.

But no matter how much sense any move would have made, it seems any Liverpool move for Pedri is dead in the water - at least for now.
