Liverpool have 'opened talks' with RB Leipzig about ending Fabio Carvalho's loan spell in Germany.

The 21-year-old forward, who joined the Reds from Fulham in 2022, made the move to Leipzig on a season-long loan during the summer.

However, he has struggled for game time with his new club, featuring in just 11 games so far in 203/24, while he has started in the Bundesliga just once.

Fabrizio Romano reports that the Portugal Under-21 star's immediate future is now up in the air, with Liverpool and Leipzig in discussion over bringing him back to Anfield, with the Reds' bosses seemingly unhappy with his 'insufficient game time'

Carvalho arrived at Liverpool as an exciting talent, having shone for Fulham in the Championship.

The young attacker, scored 11 times for the London club as they won promotion back to the Premier League, while he was also named in the Championship Team of the Year in 2021/22 and even made the preliminary squad for Portugal ahead of the 2022 World Cup.

After a promising start at Liverpool – including scoring a late winner against Newcastle – Carvalho found chances in the first team few and far between under Klopp.

In total Carvalho featured in just 13 Premier League games in 2022/23, just two of which came after the turn of the year.

There were rumours of a frosty relationship between Klopp and forward, who admitted that he didn't speak to his manager prior to his loan move to Germany.

"I don’t really speak to him [Klopp about the move], to be fair. He didn’t really give me any advice. I just had to learn as I go, and I feel that is better for me to mature anyway," Carvalho told journalists back in July.

Should Carvalho be brought back from Leipzig, it remains to be seen whether he would given another chance in the Liverpool first team for the second half of the season, or be sent out on loan to another club where he might get more minutes.

In other news, defender Rhys Williams could be another Liverpool loanee recalled this January, after failing to get game time at Aberdeen.
