Liverpool transfer news: Reds open talks for Premier League left back

Liverpool have 'reached out' to Fulham over a January deal for Antonee Robinson, according to one report.

The Reds are currently without both of their senior left-back options, with Andy Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas injured.

Robertson is likely to return at some point in January, as he steps up his recovery from shoulder surgery, while Tsimikas suffered a broken collarbone in the draw with Arsenal on 23 December.

As a result, Joe Gomez has been thrust into the role on the left-hand side of Liverpool's back line.

Speaking ahead of the Boxing Day win over Burnley, Jurgen Klopp stressed the precariousness of the situation, amid the injury crisis.

"Can Joey [Gomez] play all the games coming up now until – I don’t know when – Robbo will be back?" Klopp said.

"Kosti is now definitely out for a while, so I don’t know, we have to see. I didn’t have time now to think it through, but somebody will play the position I am pretty sure. It is for us obviously really tough, it’s really tough.

"You have injuries sometimes and we accept all of them, but a broken collarbone is really bad because it just takes long. Same what Robbo had: a different injury but that takes long as well, how we all know.

"We all know we need luck in these moments to get through and now we will have Joey there and just have to make sure we put him in cotton wool and we have to make sure he is always ready for the games."

Various reports have suggested that Liverpool could expedite plans to bring in a new defender in order to ease the worries.

According to 90min, the Reds have made contact with Fulham to discuss a January deal for 26-year-old left back Robinson.

The USA international is supposedly open to a move, despite signing a new five-year contract at Craven Cottage this summer and Liverpool are "now working in the hope of striking an agreement with Fulham."

There is no mention of how much Fulham would demand for Robinson as a transfer fee.

The Milton Keynes-born defender was raised in Liverpool and came through Everton's academy and was even named Under-18s Player of the Season in 2015. However, he never made a senior appearance for the Reds' city rivals.

So far in 2023/24, he has three assists in 18 outings for Marco Silva's side.

90min's report adds that Liverpool could also look to recall Owen Beck from his loan spell at Dundee in order to give Klopp more specialist left back options in the short term.

Academy stars Luke Chambers and Calum Scanlon have are two other options already at the club. Both teenagers made their senior debuts for Liverpool in the Europa League earlier this season.
