Liverpool open to Nat Phillips loan exit

Liverpool would be willing to let Nathaniel Phillips leave the club on loan in the January transfer window, if they cannot find a permanent buyer for the defender in the current market.

This comes from Football Insider, who claim that whilst the Reds would prefer to get a fee for the defender this month, they would now be willing to sanction a temporary exit for him, with him naturally wanting to play more first-team football than he has so far this season.

Phillips has struggled for minutes this year with the likes of Virgil van Dijk and Joel Matip back fit, whilst the arrival of Ibrahima Konate has shunted him down the pecking order even further.

He impressed last season for the Reds in desperate times, but where his future lies in the short to medium term is open to question.

Anfield Watch Verdict

Phillips has provided plenty of memorable moments in a red shirt but ultimately he wants to be playing week in, week out, rather than sitting on the bench and occasionally getting a run out in the cups or in a meaningless end-of-group Champions League tie.

He got a real taste for first-team football last year and will obviously want more of that, but it was always going to be tough to maintain that level given the options Liverpool have when everyone is fit and firing.

Nevertheless, he has shown he can perform at a very high level and he would absolutely deserve the chance to be playing for a top club regularly.
