It's no secret the Reds want to add a left-back to their ranks in the upcoming summer transfer window.
Kostas Tsimikas is not viewed as a viable long-term option at Anfield. Meanwhile, Andy Robertson is not getting any younger and is entering the twilight years of his career.
Liverpool need a young fresh face who will represent the future of the club for years to come. And one player who is hotly on the club's radar is Milos Kerkez.
Anfield Watch revealed exclusively that Liverpool held talks with his representatives as early as November. Now it seems like the Reds might be one step closer to getting their man.
Liverpool one step closer to Milos Kerkez deal
In our report, we mentioned that Liverpool are not the only team interested in the Hungarian international. Manchester United have been very keen to land him since last summer.
Back then United ended up turning away from the deal after Bournemouth set their asking price at £40m. That has now increased to £50m and it seems like United's attentions have turned elsewhere.
Fabrizio Romano posted his famous catchphrase 'here we go' on Tuesday night confirming that United were set to complete a deal for Patrick Dorgu.
Dorgu is a left-back who was on Liverpool's radar as well. However, it seems like United have won the race for his signature.
Given how he is also a young left-back at this stage, it seems impossible that United would now continue their pursuit of Kerkez thus clearing the path for Liverpool to go all out for their primary target.
With one of the biggest contenders pulling themselves out of the race, Hughes and his recruitment team have been handed a massive boost.
Of course it's still early days. Liverpool have other targets and they will have to agree a steep fee to land Kerkez.
But it is clear this move from United is a significant development in any pursuit for Kerkez. The Reds are now one step closer to getting their man.
Whether they will of course, remains to be seen. It's certainly one to keep a close eye on.
