Liverpool have learned their price for long-term transfer target Donyell Malen. Borussia Dortmund could sell the Dutchman.

Sport Bild report that Borussia Dortmund are ready to sell Donyell Malen. The German side are in danger of slipping out of the Champions League spots and the club requires money anyway if they're to improve their squad this summer.

Dortmund grew their funds substantially over the last few years by selling Jadon Sancho, Erling Haaland and Jude Bellingham. No such talent is there to be sold this time, however, and Malen could be the player who brings in the most.

Thus a price has been set: at least £34m. That'll be the minimum needed to secure the Dutchman and Liverpool could well be among the clubs that try to sign him.

The Reds have been linked with Malen for a long time - since before his move to Germany, in fact. They're mentioned again by Sport Bild, who claim Liverpool are still watching the forward.

There will be big changes at Anfield later this year, of course, and Malen could well be a part of that.

So do Liverpool actually need Malen? Right now, no. They have enough forwards as it is and signing him only makes any sense if someone leaves.

But if the Reds do free up space in their forward ranks, Malen is a very attractive signing. His goal ratio is stellar, with 10 goals in the Bundesliga coming in the equivalent of 16.4 90s. In other words, he scores a little over a goal every other game on average.

Malen does that despite not really having a set position at Dortmund - he's played all over the front line just in his last five games. And at 24, he should be about to move into his prime.

There's no doubt that Malen is a very interesting signing at £34m. The big question is whether he's the right signing for Liverpool right now, as this opportunity may have just come too late.
