Liverpool Next Manager: Fabrizio Romano offers update on Italian coach linked with Reds
Liverpool have been linked with a whole host of managers as they ramp up their efforts to replace Jurgen Klopp at the end of the season.
Xabi Alonso was the long-time favourite for the position but he has announced his decision to stay at Bayer Leverkusen next season, leaving Liverpool searching for alternative options.
Sporting CP boss Ruben Amorim is the new front-runner and the overwhelming fan favourite for the role, while the likes of Roberto De Zerbi and Julian Nagelsmann have also been touted.
However, recent reports have also named Inter boss Simone Inzaghi as one of Liverpool's potential managerial candidates, with transfer journalist Romano having weighed in on the credibility of such links.
LIVERPOOL TO MOVE FOR SIMONE INZAGHI?
Inzaghi isn't a name that has been linked too frequently with the Liverpool job and Romano admits that there is nothing concrete regarding the Reds and the 47-year-old yet.
Speaking to CaughtOffside, Romano stated: "Another name for the Liverpool job coming up in reports is Simone Inzaghi. However, I’m not aware of anything concrete so far on this one, also because Inzaghi is fully focused on Inter and on winning the Serie A title.
"My understanding is also that Inter will offer him new deal in the upcoming weeks, so the situation is currently quiet; let’s see if he will receive concrete proposals."
There have been reports suggesting that Inzaghi has no interest in leaving Inter in the near future and therefore will not be taking over from Klopp, but it's interesting to see a relatively new name being touted for the position.
Liverpool want to make a decision about their new head coach by the end of the season and it still seems that Amorim is the man closest to the job at present.
Amorim's actual release clause was reported recently, with Liverpool able to bypass negotiations with Sporting by activating that clause.
