When Marcelo Bielsa took over at Uruguay it felt like Darwin Nuñez might have been about to take the leap forward that everyone at Anfield had been waiting for.
His part in a 2-0 defeat of World Cup winners Argentina and then a run to the Copa America semi-finals made it seem like everything was falling Darwin’s way, and it was surely only a matter of time before this form would be transplanted onto Merseyside.
But the arrival of new head coach Arne Slot has quashed Nuñez’s fortunes. He’s only played a third of Liverpool’s minutes so far this season, limited to one league start and a handful of cameo substitutions.
Now the Uruguayan press pack have started to express their fears for Nunez.

Liverpool loan star Luca Stephenson just scored a last-minute goal for Dundee United. It's the biggest moment of his career to date.
Luca Stephenson was one of the stars as Dundee United won at home against Hibernian. United were 1-0 up here before finding themselves 2-1 down heading deep into stoppage time.
