While many will have considered Liverpool's successful opening to the season to be a false dawn because of the quality of opposition the Reds had faced. But having dispatched Chelsea this afternoon, opinions are beginning to change.

Jones reveals hilarious secret

Curtis Jones stepped up brilliantly, outshining Cole Palmer to help keep Liverpool at the top of the Premier League.

The Reds midfielder capped off a stellar performance by finding the back of the net at the back post, just moments after Nicolas Jackson had equalised for Chelsea. It was a strong response from Arne Slot’s side following Manchester City’s earlier victory, which had briefly lifted them into pole position.

Jones was heavily involved in the tie winning a penalty, making crucial blocks and scoring the match-winner. It was certainly a man of the match performance from the new dad.

The 23-year-old welcomed his daughter Giselle with partner Saffie Khan exactly a week ago, however Slot's recent rule change means players now stay at home ahead of games at Anfield. Hardly ideal when you have a newborn baby!

Despite many concerns that Liverpool would fall off this season after losing Jurgen Klopp at the end of the last campaign, the Reds are flying.

Winning 10 of their first 11 matches, the players are in form, the tactics have filtered through and Liverpool keep being able to find a way to win their games.

Scoring 25 goals in that time frame, while only conceding five, it is difficult to think of a better way Liverpool could've started the season.

Arne Slot often looks back on the Nottingham Forest defeat at Anfield in September, but the new project will almost definitely have gained a lot for having lost the game and then subsequently responding with a return to winning ways.

And while opposition fans have felt reluctant to praise Arne Slot's Liverpool outfit, pointing to a relatively straightforward run of games, the Reds' 2-1 win over Chelsea will no doubt have made them begin to reconsider.

Now at the precipice of a remarkable run of games, Arne Slot is being forced into some difficult judgement calls.

Liverpool face Chelsea, Arsenal, Brighton twice and Leverkusen, all in the next two weeks across all competitions.

And after the second international break of the season, the club's players have been fighting the clock to be in contention for today's Anfield clash against Chelsea.

While many of Liverpool's contingent are from South America, the turnaround is rather quick from their return to Anfield on Thursday night.

As such, Arne Slot has been forced into a major decision surrounding Argentinian midfielder Alexis Mac Allister.

Ever since the PGMOL brought in VAR to improve the standard of officiating, the Premier League has been littered with controversies.

The rule book is no longer as black and white as it used to be, with varying interpretations of the laws resulting in a noticeable lack of consistency.

And while the margin for error is as small as it has ever been, refereeing mistakes can end up being the deciding factor between teams.

In Manchester City's 2-1 victory over Wolves this afternoon, the lingering aftertaste of the match is dominated by a huge call made on the Blues' last-minute winner.

Jones misses huge opportunity

Curtis Jones missed a huge opportunity against Chelsea.

This was one of the best performances by the Liverpool midfielder in a red shirt.

From the get go Jones ran all over the pitch and looked like the most lively player in a Liverpool shirt.

He run Chelsea rugged and made his moments count in the final third.

If it wasn't for a controversial VAR decision to overturn a penalty in the first-half, Jones could have made things even more comfortable for the Reds.
